C.O.D UNITED AMAZONS STRIKER, MONDAY GIFT BECOMES LATEST BENEFICIARY OF THE D.I.E.T SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

Lagos based club, C.O.D United has yet again demonstrated its commitment to its stated ethos of positively impacting the lives of footballers on and off the pitch by granting C.O.D United Amazons starlet, Monday Gift a full scholarship to study Business Administration at the Yaba College of  Technology, Lagos while she continues to fulfill her dream of being a  footballer.

Monday Gift, who joined the female team since its inception in 2013 has been a beacon of dedication and discipline, helping the team to its first major trophy, the Lagos FA Cup in 2014. The highly rated forward who was also recently named in the Nigeria Women Football League (Futball Galore) team of the week after putting in an outstanding performance by scoring a brace against Tokas Queens has always been desirous of furthering her education and the club has responded to that yearning.

Chief executive of the club, Shola Opaleye, said the scholarship was in line with the club’s stated policy of ensuring that its footballers are given the best opportunities to succeed in life, on and off the pitch.

“We have always said that our mission is to ensure that our footballers develop to not just be better footballers but more importantly, better individuals who are prepared to make exploits on and off the pitch. Nothing prepares one for great exploits more than good education and we are committed to give as many of them that opportunity to be properly educated. ” he stated.

“Our strategy is to ensure that at least 10 percent of our over 140 players are on the D.I.E.T scholarship scheme at every point in time. We hope she makes the best out of the opportunity.”

The C.O.D United Amazons striker also expressed her gratitude at being a beneficiary of the scholarship opportunity, “I have always wanted to be an educated sports lady and I am immensely grateful to the C.O.D family for helping me fulfill that dream.”

Over the years, other beneficiaries of this scheme include; Abideen Bankole, an U-16 player currently in J.S.S 3, Olaegbe Joshua (U-18), Alimi Sheriff (U-18) and Akanni Akeem (C.O.D United Reserves) who is currently in 200 level at the National Open University of Nigeria.
