An excellent brace from Gift Monday and a composed finish from Ifeoma Paulinus helped the Amazons secure their first win of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season and put us back in reckoning for qualification.
An entertaining match began with the Amazons taking an early lead through a chicly finish from Monday. Paulinus doubled the lead with a well taken strike in the 34th minute to end the first half. Monday was again on target in the second half with an individually orchestrated goal to round off a one-sided game.

Having been unlucky with our first two away games without a win, Uche Eucharia named an attacking lineup against the Ogun State based side with two strikers upfront in Monday and Paulinus. We began the game brightly, threatening the opponent’s goal from as early as the third minute when Joseph was sent through on goal but her shot wasn’t hit cleanly as the keeper saved comfortably. The goal wasn’t going to take long as Monday latched onto a pass from midfield and chicly lobbed the ball over her marker as she drilled a low one beyond the reach of the keeper.
We continued to threaten especially from open play and Paulinus was at the heart of those chances but the keeper ensured we led by only one goal in the first thirty minutes. Paulinus did make her potency count with a predators’ finish as she reacted the quickest to cushion in a free-kick from Omosuyi.

Tokas came close to pulling one back when Yese did not properly hold on to a harmless shot from midfield but the outstanding keeper was quick enough to beat out the rebound. We resumed from where we stopped in the second half as we maintained the pressure on the opponent’s defence. We came close on a number of occasions as Omosuyi’s freekick which Obioma attempted to bundle in was well claimed by the goalkeeper. Monday eventually made our consistent pressure count with her second of the evening as she raced past two markers in the box and bent one to the top right corner.

Tokas were limited to long range efforts throughout the second half as the Amazons cruised to a 3 nil victory to renew hopes of qualification from our NWFL group. We next play Osun babes in the coming weekend.
